While your flower boat sailed away…

I have daffodils and tulips in my yard…awww, so pretty and happy:

It’s too bad it’s been so stinkin windy in Colorado the last few days – my dainty flowers are taking quite the beating, but they are holding up okay.

I am so SO excited to have my own yard this year and be able to work on the garden and make my backyard so pretty and comfortable to hang out in!  I want to grow veggies AND flowers – I have already been talking to my mom(the master gardener) about what to do and hopefully in the next few days, she and I will be able to sit down and strategize my plan for the yard since it’s already about time to start planting some of it.

I know it will be a lot of work, but I am up for the challenge and I definitely don’t want to wait until next year to try my hand at it.  The woman who owned my home previously did a lot of gardening and I want to continue the tradition on my property.  I’m told by one of the neighbors that some of the bushes along the garage are raspberry bushes and that if I give them a little tlc, they should produce hundreds of raspberries – yay!

I am also finding lots of super cute ways to hang plants indoors – I don’t know how soon I might do that, but it is a definite possibility – I think it can make a room feel so much more bright and alive.

My favorite chef in the entire world is Jamie Oliver, and I remember seeing once – on one of his many shows – that he had a window box outside his kitchen where he could just go over while cooking and clip off some herbs to use.  I fell in love with that idea and since that time, many years ago, I have dreamt of having a window box full of herbs to use in my cooking.  I am already planning this for the windows in my kitchen nook – and I am REALLY excited about it.  Window boxes are so lovely…they can spruce up any old drab space.

I love plants, they make life so much more pleasing to the senses.  What are your favorite plants to grown in dry climates?
