Party & Project ReStyle!

5.31.2011 by Stephanie May under DIY,Fashion,Project ReStyle

I had such an amazing birthday this year!  And you know, even though it is sometimes hard to get older, I really do love my birthday, and I can’t wait for the next one!  Tristan threw me a party on Saturday night, and this is what I wore:

Black romper – Forever 21

Purple ruffle blouse – vintage (and hand dyed by me)

Sparkle tights – Vera Wang

Gold heels – my latest Project ReStyle!  (see below)

New hair color – Purple Passion:)

Tristan is an AMAZING cook, and he made us the most delicious NYC-themed dinner for my party!  Homemade pretzels (with spicy mustard), homemade potato chips, Nathan’s hot dogs, and NY-style pizza from a local pizzeria.  SO yummy.  Oh, and for dessert, my favorite – Blue Bell ice cream!  He even put 29 candles in it – he’s so sweet:)

I feel very happy to have such a sweet, thoughtful husband.  Between my first gift, the party, and my HUGE surprise, I am feeling really grateful.  Seriously, he’s incredible.

………………………………………………..

Stormie Dae and I are SO behind on Project ReStyle!  Sorry about that, but we will be getting caught up over the  next few weeks.  We have committed to doing 12 projects each before the end of the year, so we better get our behinds a movin!  Here is an ultra-simple one from me to you:

I bought these black booties 3 years ago, and hadn’t really been wearing them anymore.  I decided they needed new life, so I removed the laces, cut the tounges out with an exacto knife, and spray painted them metallic gold.  Simple, very quick, and I love how they turned out.  I am thinking they might be several different colors before the summer is out.

Extended weekend.

5.30.2011 by Stormie Dae under Fashion,Food,Holidays

This is what happens when Stormie Dae forgets to do a blog post on a holiday weekend…she starts talking in the third person and decides to post something super late and quickly.

My weekend in a nutshell:

Babysitting these two cuties…and no, she didn’t cry the whole night:)

Birthday party fun with Stephanie May.

Celebrating another birthday with friends…and really good soup.

And today I slept in late, went to lunch with my parents, took a nap…and then realized I have a MASSIVE to-do list for tonight(which included blogging).  If anyone needs me, that is where I’ll be for the next few hours.

Love!

My surprise

5.29.2011 by Stephanie May under Art,Fashion

So….I got a tattoo last night.  And it is a big deal for me because it was my first one!  Oh, and I had NO idea that I was getting one.  Here’s how it happened:

My husband Tristan told me that he would be giving me another gift at my birthday party (which was last night).  I kept begging for clues because I can’t stand when he knows about something that I don’t.  He totally threw me off by telling me that my secret gift was “mostly white” and it had “wheels”.  Ummmm, okay??  A bike?  scooter?  Yeah, those were the only guesses I had.  So anyway, at the party, we had just eaten dinner, and the front door opened.  Stormie’s friend Chris walked in, carrying his tattoo equipment (yes, the same artist that did Stormie’s latest tattoo).  I was literally speechless.  I just stood there like a dork trying to figure out why he was there, and then he said “Happy Birthday” and I realized that he was there to tattoo ME!  I was freaking out…a little.  Time to make the big decision – and quick.  Luckily, Tristan had already told Chris exactly what I wanted – “I love you” in Tristan’s handwriting tattooed under my collar bone.

“Before” tattoo.

Tristan carefully writing “I love you” on the carbon paper.

Stormie helped us figure out the placement, and Chris applied the stencil.

I was SO nervous.  I had no idea if I could handle the pain or not, but I was about to find out.

Tristan held my hand when he first started – thanks honey!

The pain wasn’t bad at all (thank goodness!).  It just felt irritating more than anything.  The whole tattoo took about 10 minutes.

Done!

I love it SO much!  Thank you to Tristan for coming up with this amazing birthday gift!  And thanks to Stormie for arranging it, and of course Chris for doing the actual tattoo (he did such a great job!).

I will share more photos from my birthday party soon:)

Love,

Shop goodness

5.25.2011 by Stormie Dae under Fashion,Home decor,Our Etsy Shop,vintage

I know we’ve posted a few times recently of new items we’ve listed in our Etsy shop, but there are a few items that aren’t even listed yet and I can’t resist showing them to you.  You are the first to see these…not even technically for sale yet! :)

This vintage knife box is so sweet!

I’m pretty sure these are my very favorite item that will have been in our shop so far…I want to keep them for myself – maybe I will!

I love the simple lines of this woodgrain clock

Kitchen canisters are so pretty and if it wasn’t completely ridiculous and useless, I might start a collection

These are to die for…and I am kind of in love with this photo too

We’ve had crap weather the past few weeks as well as incredibly busy schedules for us AND our models…and you know, someone’s birthday had to be last week;) so we’ve taken a good few weeks off of photographing and listing anything new in our shop.  Hopefully tomorrow will be extremely productive and we can get a lot of new items up for you to see – always so fun for us because we desperately love each handpicked item that goes into our shop.

Make sure you check back soon, these items and a lot more pretties will be there soon!

Love,

Stormie Dae

Busy days

5.24.2011 by Stephanie May under Food, kids

We celebrated my youngest daughter, Gemma’s birthday on Sunday afternoon.  It finally stopped raining here in Colorado, and we were able to enjoy the whole afternoon at the park without a single raindrop.  Lots of swinging, a game of tag, yummy lemon-poppyseed cake (with white chocolate hearts) made by my mom, and tons of goldfish crackers, grapes, and pizza made up the party.  Gemma’s heart dress is from Target, and her redhead necklace is from Forever 21.  I loved how the cake turned out – the pink heart is supposed to represent Gemma:)

She is 4 years old now, and she wants everyone to know it.  Yesterday (her actual birthday), she kept saying that she didn’t have to clean or do things she didn’t want too because it was her birthday.  Heehee – sounds a little like me:)  Happy Birthday Gemma!  Mama loves you:)

Last Friday, my daughter, Guini graduated from Kindergarten!  We were so proud of her – she did an amazing job at school this year, and I can’t believe that she will be in full-day next year!  Love you Guini!  How cute is she in her vintage Polly Flinders dress?!  And the graduation gowns were SO cute:)

Here’s to birthdays, graduations, and last days of school.

Sometimes I disappoint

Sometimes I just want one of these.  We’ve had lots of rainy days, but not really any quiet ones.  I’m trying to declare this a quiet rainy day.  Want to help me enforce it?  Not really sure how…but we can just pretend that we are on some elite rain squad that forces everyone to be quiet and listen to the rain that hits the roof and the streets outside- let’s be really cheesy and call it a storm-ie squad, yeah?

Happy rainy day…it’s time for some quiet.

A fantastic whirlwind

5.22.2011 by Stephanie May under Fashion,Food, kids

Hi!  This weekend has been one of the busiest I have had in a long time, but it has been such a great one!  I have a slew of photos to show you from my birthday yesterday, and today we celebrated my soon-to-be 4 year old’s birthday (photos on Tuesday).  Friday was my 5-year old’s Kindergarten graduation (tear!), and Tuesday/Wednesday are my 2 older kid’s last days of school.  Whew.  I am looking forward to the official start of summer this week, and taking a couple days to stay home and chill.

Yesterday was my 29th birthday.  I have already been enjoying a present from Tristan (a new bed!) all week, and I just found out yesterday that Stormie Dae got me an iPhone for my birthday!  Eeeeek!  Yes, I am feeling even more spoiled than before:)

Tristan and I took the kids shopping in Denver so that I could visit one of my favorite stores - Anthropologie (plus UO and Forever 21).  Then we got our favorite Lebanese/Persian takeout for lunch, and took the kids to the park to enjoy the beautiful sunny weather.

New birthday dress.  Full skirt + windy day = lots of hilarious moments.

I love it when Tristan takes my photo.

Sometimes tights don’t want to stay up.

yummmmmm.

Park bench cuddling.

Anthro kids:)

I loveeeeee my birthday!

Happy Birthday Stephanie May!

5.21.2011 by Stormie Dae under Fashion

As everyone knows, I am a huge Mac fan.  No one can change my mind on that, so please don’t even try.  I just find this photo fun and pretty…sorry, I couldn’t help it.

Now back to the real reason for this out of character Saturday post.  Today is Stephanie May’s 29th birthday!!!

I meant to find a photo of Stephanie and I when we were younger but I sort of forgot.  This one of her with my mom is so sweet though…and now you know that she was destined to have red hair from the beginning.  Look at that 80′s red!

I love this photo.  It was really just one of hundreds I took one day when we were trying to get good pictures for our blog birthday post.  I don’t know why this one got overlooked, but I stumbled across it a few weeks ago and I love it.  This is Stephanie to me.  No matter what we are doing, we are always laughing – and that is one of the best things I think.  I’m just shocked there is no coffee anywhere in this photo, but that is another matter.

Stephanie and I talked about starting our “MayDae” business together SO many years ago, and this past year has been such an incredible experience.  I don’t think there is anything better than doing something you love with someone you love.

Some of my fondest memories of Stephanie and I are:

- Everytime she would come to pick me up from junior high, I was thrilled and flattered that my teachers and even my friends would mistake her for being me when she walked down the hall.  I always thought she was beautiful and I can’t complain that they believed we looked that much alike.

- Also a junior high age memory, at times we would dress the same.  We thought it was funny, and secretly I thought it was really cool and loved doing it.  Black shirts, dark jeans and black Converse.  Yes.

- Stephanie introduced me to the caramel macchiato at Starbucks when I was too intimidated by the choices to make my own decision, and I haven’t changed my drink of choice since – although Steph has.

- I have gotten to know Stephanie very well through picture form.  I have hundreds of photos of her modeling things for our shop that I sort through every few weeks and edit…if only she knew how closely I know her – in the most non-creepy way possible:)

She is caring, she is funny, she is one of the coolest mom’s I know – and I’m pretty sure she is the best den mother or room volunteer or whatever you want to call it, that her kids’ school has ever seen.  Her fashion sense inspires me and I actually kind of like that we don’t have the same opinion on everything.  It makes doing our business together so much more fun and adventurous…we even place bets sometimes on how fast different items will sell in our shop.  Currently we have two pairs of shoes that the other person doesn’t like, we’ll see who’s right…pretty sure it’s me.

Shoot…how did we get back to the Apple product thing??  Oh…that’s right…because that’s my gift to Stephanie for her birthday this year.  I just feel like it’s time that we became iPhone buddies, don’t you Steph? ;)

I love you big sis, even though you spray smelly perfume on me when we’re shopping…still working on forgiving you for that btw. ;)

I hope this year brings you great joy and love and stinkin spectacular relationships….thanks for being my partner in life, love and business – it’s kinda the best.

Love,

Stormie Dae
