I like big hair and I can not lie

3.31.2011 by Stephanie May under Fashion,Hair

Yesterday, I did my hair inspired by Marc Jacobs Spring 2011 hairstyles.  Big.  Fluffy.  Wispy.  Kinda like cotton candy hair.  My hair is naturally wavy/curly, so teasing it up isn’t too hard, and sometimes my hair is big when I don’t want it to be…can anybody else relate?  I also found it quite hard to find the balance between teased and frizzy.  Perhaps more product next time…

In unrelated-to-big-hair-news, Spring Break is going way way way too fast.  I hope I can get everything on my to-do list done…today – photo shoot with my kids!  Can’t wait to see their cute faces on film:)  What are you up to?

Love,

Shattered Glass.

3.30.2011 by Stormie Dae under Fashion,Home decor

Good name for a movie, but not exactly a great element to a Monday afternoon while trying to work on unpacking and setting up a new home.  I won’t go into details…but Monday was not a great day for me.  Or rather, there was a 30 minute span that was not great which proceeded to cast a shadow on the rest of my afternoon…and part of that included shattering the glass on my back door.  I know, I know – welcome to home ownership.  I get it, but it was not my proudest moment.

In any case, I am still in the middle of my few days off of work to set up the new house, and I am loving it!  There is so much to do, but I would much rather be working on this – broken glass included – than wasting my day away in cube land at work.

Tuesday started out MUCH nicer than Monday…with coffee and yummy cereal:

My first cup of coffee in the new house – so lovely.  And I also ended up having a latte later in the evening prepared in my kitchen as well(thanks Ryan!) – too much coffee?  No way!

The plan is to show you lots of photos of my new house in the next couple of weeks – from moving in to decorating, but until I can get a chance to go through the hundreds of photos we’ve already taken, AND take more…I will just share with you a couple of one of my favorite projects so far.  The kitchen is my favorite room in the house, and I have been working on that little by little as I can(can’t wait to have it all set up and show you photos!) – but there is another area in the house that is also one of my favorites…and it is my closet.  When I first saw this house, I couldn’t stop thinking about the closet and I think I even had dreams about it.

As you may remember from this post, I have A LOT of shoes.  At my old house, they were piled in the bottom of my closet and I could never see or remember which shoes I had – therefore making it impossible for them to all get a fair rotation.  Yes, that concerns me.

Moving day…one of the first things I actually sat down to do was sort through my shoes so I could put them away – they were the only item in my closet for the first 3 days.

I have always wanted a way to display all of my shoes so that I could actually see them and in turn, wear each of them on a regular basis instead of getting into boring rotations of the same shoes over and over again.

Eeeeeeeek!  My closet already had built-in shelves where my shoes fit PERFECTLY.  Was this house made for me or what?!  I love looking at my shoes every time I open my closet – it makes me very very happy.  So Tuesday was spent finally unpacking all of my clothes and accessories – and now a big project that I will need to think about soon is how to display all of my jewelry.  I have a lot of ideas in mind that I love, and as soon as I get some other necessary things done in the house first, I will jump on those projects!

We had some of the nieces and nephews(that were able to) spend the night last night for their Spring break.  It was a night filled with goody bags for each kid, Candy Land, Barbies, card games, popcorn, cookies and Toy Story 3…Definitely a crazy night, but we all had fun, and hopefully they aren’t too sore from sleeping on my super cute hardwood floors.  Beauty is pain, right?

Happy Wednesday dear friends, I am so glad that I am still not working today and can do things in my house…and I will most likely be making yet another trip to Home Depot somewhere in the mix.  Thus is my life these days, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Kiss kiss,

Stormie Dae

Be Back Soon!

3.25.2011 by Stormie Dae under Home decor

That’s right….I am now a homeowner!  I closed on my house yesterday afternoon and we spent the rest of the day tearing out carpet, painting and cleaning.  Phew…I am tired!  That is where I will be for the next few days, weeks, months, and years – and I promise to share a lot more photos, but for now – I am beat and have lots to do!  I will be back soon, I promise!

Kisses!

Mother Daughter Dress Up

3.24.2011 by Stephanie May under Fashion,Hair, kids

Starting in August, my 2 oldest kids are going to be in school full-day, and my youngest, Gemma will be an “only child” with me during the day.  I can’t believe I only have 1 more school year until she will be in school too.  I’ve been in the pregnancy/baby/toddler mode for over 8 years, and I don’t know if I’m ready to be an “empty nester” during the school week!  It definitely makes me think that I need to appreciate the days, hours, and weeks that I have left with her at home full-time.  I decided to get dressed up with her and have a little mini-photo shoot yesterday, and it worked out well so that she could also be my photographer.  SO cute!  She did a great job, and I only had to remind her a few (dozen) times not to put her fingers over the lens:)

I wore:

skirt – thrifted

heels – Vera Wang

tights – Urban Outfitters

tank – Forever 21

belt – thrifted

These photos of her make my heart happy – what a cutie!  I want to do a cute photo-shoot of all 3 of my kiddos very soon, and I’m thinking that next week during their Spring Break will be the perfect time to do it!

Gemma wore:

Tiered ruffle dress – vintage (love this dress!)

White t-strap mary janes – vintage

I’m SO happy to have 2 little girls that love to dress up with me.  Here are some fun looks that I made inspired by mine and Gemma’s outfits:

Have a beautiful day!  *Stormie is closing on her house today – hooray!

Love,

I am a Fall season girl…but my second favorite season is Spring.  The air is still crisp and a tad bit chilly and my layers can stay on for at least a few weeks more.  Everything is brand new and fresh – and I absolutely LOVE flowers.

I am closing on my house tomorrow(!) – I literally can’t wait and today is going to last forever – it will be like Christmas Eve and waiting anxiously for the next day to arrive.  I went over to the house yesterday and there are tulips coming out of the ground….love.

As I was looking for new clothes for Spring (not that I can buy any right now – but it’s fun anyway) I couldn’t stop myself from delving head-on into the season and the things that make me think of it.  I can’t wait for Spring fashion…

Summer Love ♥

3.22.2011 by Stephanie May under Fashion,Travel

I’ve never been to Coney Island, but I would love to go…and this photo shoot really really makes me want to be there right now.  Lemonade, cotton candy, roller coasters, doesn’t it all sound divine?

Oh, and I’m missing NYC quite a bit….and a Nathan’s hot dog from Gray’s sounds amazing.

Happy (almost) Summer to you!

Love,

It’s a weakness

3.18.2011 by Stormie Dae under Fashion

I know you may think I’m crazy.  It’s not that I haven’t heard of Aldo before, I’ve seen lots of advertisements (which I love by the way – they are so clean and fresh with the best pops of color).

But before yesterday, I had never taken the time to go to their website.  I was looking at a billboard for Aldo that we will be printing at my work and I LOVED the shoes in it.  I figured they would be way out of my price range.  In a way they are…but I then discovered their clearance section and…Oh. My. Gosh.  I have never seen so many shoes on clearance in my life!  The great thing is – they have a “Sale” section but then their “Clearance” section has you take an extra 30% off.  That is BAD news for a shoe addict like myself.  Don’t worry, I didn’t break down and buy any….yet.  Gotta wait until after the big move – which is less than a week away!  Here are some of my current Aldo favorites:

Checo Wedges – Crochet is delicious

Went Heels – The texture of these is so appealing

Hernandez Heels – These remind me of some of my favorite sandals

Garolega Oxfords – Yep, kinda in love with Oxfords right now

Orlena Boots – I’m not a huge fan of brown but I really like it with boots for some reason

Krugh Heels – These are TO DIE FOR…and also the shoes from the billboard that brought me to the website.  I need.

I wonder if my shoe addiction will ever go away?  But do I really want it to?  I’m not sure….

Love!
