Giant favorites

9.30.2010 by Stephanie May under Art,Fashion,Food,Home decor

I hope you like really really big photos, because all of my photos today are just too beautiful to keep in a small size.  I am swooning over this embroidery hoop wall art.  Love the colors, and different patterns of each one.  SO cool!

I’m dreaming about living in this amazing loft in Amsterdam!  Can you even believe how incredible this is?  The building has been kept the same for the past 250 years, and turned into this uber-cool residential space.    Me likey.

I am craving a visit to Beacon’s Closet in Brooklyn.  I bought several items on my first visit in May, and I can’t wait to go back!  It kicks Buffalo Exchange out the door.

These boots are exactly what I need for fall.  I am in extreme need of fall clothing.  Boots, scarves, long sleeve tees, hats – I need it all!  I kinda like my little rhyme there.  *Side note – I like coming up with strange little rhymes, and I have a great admiration for Shel Silverstein.  Favorite.

Popcorn pops (aka popcorn balls with sticks in them).  I don’t love pink, but these are so fun and cute.  Fall is the perfect time for gooey treats, don’t ya think?

Well, I’m off to grab Starbucks, go grocery shopping, and eventually wake up.  Kiss kiss!

*You can still enter to be one of two winners in our vintage giveaway that will run through Sunday!  Click here to enter!

Me and my legs…we’re tight.

9.29.2010 by Stormie Dae under Fashion

It’s that time again lovelies – tights wearing season has arrived!!

Now, Stephanie May* and I are of the mind that tights can and should be worn all year round(remember when Stephanie May* posted here about wearing tights in MAY?!) – but for those of you who just can’t bring yourselves to slip them on in the heat of summer – this is your time!  We live in a state where winter is never really winter because the snow melts the day after it bombards the city and having a cooler day in summer is not a shock.  When it comes to tights, we can wear them all year long and that gives us joy to no end.

I know what some of you are thinking – “Stormie Dae*, I have never seen you wear tights ever!” – well, that’s because I have a love/hate relationship with my legs.  I love them because they get me where I need to go, and I hate them because the closest I can get to wearing tights while still feeling comfortable are my skinny jeans.  I can dream though, can’t I?!  Maybe this will be the Fall that I get over myself and my silly insecurities and slap on some tights…especially since I do have some cute ones that never get out of the house.

(All photos from lookbook.nu and weheartit.com)

Someday, tights…someday.

*And don’t forget about our vintage giveaway that is going on RIGHT NOW through Sunday this week!  Click here to enter!

Hello cuties!  Welcome back to another Monday-Etsy-Picks-Extravaganza!  We are wishing fall into existence this week because Colorado has still been having uncomfortably warm weather.  We are hoping that this post on crunchy leaves will magically bring the temperature down 15 degrees by tomorrow.  What do you think?  Conceivable?  Oh well, we will just have to bear it and hope that the autumn season doesn’t get completely bullied by summer and winter.  Fight fall, fight!

I want to be lazy.

9.24.2010 by Stormie Dae under Fashion

Today just feels like one of those days…a lazy day.  I am enjoying my caramel macchiato while trying to push off the sleepiness I so desperately want to give in to.  I know I took 3 days off work – but seriously…I need the weekend!  In honor of my lazy mood, here are some pics I like from my trip to visit my cousin – what can I say, I like shoes and I couldn’t pick which of these I liked more.  Which one is your favorite?

For your enjoyment, here is a picture of me…HEYO!!!

And just to be super random(because this post is already topping the charts for randomness) – here are some lovely photos that I am crushing on today:

That’s all I got folks, it’s not a lot – but it’s my life.  Sort of.

Happy Random Friday and welcome weekend, I love you!

Short, but good

9.23.2010 by Stephanie May under Fashion,Hair

I wear my hair in a side ponytail with my hair wrapped around the elastic pretty frequently.  I really like this look and I love how simple it is to do, but I am thinking I need to try to make it a little cleaner looking and not so bed-head.  I adore the model’s hair and whole look above from Zara (floral socks!).

In totally unrelated, but exciting news – Stormie Dae is back!  I picked her up at the airport yesterday, and I am so happy to have her back in Colorado.  I love this photo of us, because it is the true definition of “candid” : relating to or being photography of subjects acting naturally or spontaneously without being posed. Yup, that’s us – always natural and spontaneous without being posed…errrr, well maybe not always.  Does anyone else struggle with posing naturally for photos?  There’s so much pressure involved when someone randomly calls out, “c’mon you two – take a picture!”.  You know that it will end up on FaceBook or a blog by the end of the night, and if you make a slightly weird face, or you didn’t bother to brush your hair that day, there’s nothing you can do about it – it’s there…forever.  Speaking of FaceBook, you can add MayDae as your friend here if you haven’t already.

Well, marvies (short for marvelous people), I hope you are having a splendid Thursday and all of your dreams are coming true…am I right?

Greetings from Oliver!

9.22.2010 by Stormie Dae under Fashion,Home decor,Travel

This is Oliver.  He is my new friend and trusty sidekick that I found while antique junking in Bristol, South Dakota.  It has a population of 377 and I wonder how often they change that sign – it’s rather specific and I feel that it would better suit them to round, don’t you agree?

I have spent the last 5 days relaxing, drinking tons(and I mean TONS) of coffee and Dr. Pepper and hanging out with my beautiful and fun Aunt, Uncle, and cousins.  It has been a fantastic vacation and I am excited to go home today to see my family but also sad to be leaving all the ease of living temporarily in South Dakota.  My cousin, Elise, was amazing and took me on a trek about 40 miles from her house yesterday so we could spend the afternoon scavenging antique stores.  The Sanders family owns three – count them three – buildings full of delicious treasures and vintage finds for me to drool over and then make the tough decision of what to take home.

The first place we went was an old two-story school house that has so much stuff in it, you could spend weeks digging through each room and still not see everything.  If there is such a thing as antique and vintage heaven, I was there and spent 3 glorious hours basking in and trying desperately to see every nook and cranny.  I wanted to take everything home but decided on a few fabulous finds and thought it would make your day so much brighter if I shared them with you.

1. Yellow hankie – Colorado all the way

2. Large wire basket for all my treasures at home

3. The cutest little tart molds ever!

4. Colorful handkerchief for when my neck gets chilly

Bowls to match my Anthropologie dishes

1. Old gentleman’s bowtie for my hair

2. Two red fish barretts

3. Vintage black bow cocktail hat

The cutest ceramic funnel I’ve ever seen!

Thermos LOVE

1. Mustard yellow gloves

2. Six yellow flower coasters

3. Robin’s egg blue kitchen canisters

A stinkin Polaroid OneStep camera!!  I have no idea if it still works but I am crossing my fingers!

Now – I couldn’t bring myself to pay $15 for this dress so I am not coming home with it – but I LOVE it!

Also seen in some of the photos as a stand for other items is a large enamel basin for me to use when I make Timpano.  I have been looking for one without lots of rust and chips for quite awhile now so I can actually cook in it and I was so excited to come away with one in such good condition.  All of my purchases are already very dear to my heart and I can’t wait to get them home!

Oliver and I will be making a few more stops to antique stores on the way to the airport and I am hoping to cram my suitcases to capacity.  I hope this has brightened your day, it has definitely made mine more cheerful by sharing all of my new loveliness with you!  Cheers from Oliver!  …and me too.

Fall beauties and yummies

9.21.2010 by Stephanie May under DIY,Food,Home decor

Have you started decorating for fall yet?  I am hoping hoping hoping to get started this week.  I can’t get over how many lovely autumn decorations are running through my mind these days!  The colors and textures are exciting and comforting, and since autumn is my favorite season, I want to celebrate it and give it the honor it deserves.  What cute fall decor ideas do you have this year?  I would love to see how you are getting your home ready for this season, so leave a link in the comments to any photos that you have of your pretties!

Martha, you are a comfort.

Mini-pumpkins in varied hues.

Felt leaf garland.

Fried apple pies.  They are beautifully rustic.

Fabric pumpkins?!  I need to make some of these soon, very soon.

No one loves broccoli cheese soup as much as I do.  Yummmm.

Simple felt leaf garland.  Gorgeous colors.

Caramel apples are a must this season.  Are you team caramel or team candied?

Real leaves!

Yarn pumpkins – ultra sweet and lovely.

These cut-outs are oh so pretty.

Do you feel inspired?  I hope so!  *On a side note – Stormie Dae has been in South Dakota since Friday and is coming home tomorrow afternoon (yay)!  I’ve missed her terribly, and we have much planning, creating, and coffee drinking to do when she returns.

Happy Tuesday to you!

9.20.2010 by Stormie Dae under Art,Etsy Picks,Fashion,Home decor

Dear Monday,

We are once again thrilled that you have arrived!  You usually represent the dreaded early morning, and a work pile the size of  Neptune, but you also lovingly represent our favorite part of the blogging week:  Etsy Picks.  We love to sift through thousands of listings to find the perfect matches for our themes.  This week, we are salivating over vintage cameras, and wanted to collect the very best Etsy has to offer.  Thank you Monday, for making this all possible.

Love, the sisterly team of MayDae
